About the Competitions Committee
The Dorset & Wilts Competitions Committee is responsible for organising and administering all inter Club competition at all ages. We meet 4-5 times a year.
Our responsibilities include the administration of 3 knock out competitions, for
- 1st XVs below Level 6 (Cup, Vase and Plate)
- two 2nd XV knock outs (Cup and Shield)
- and the 3rd XV Cup.
We also provide the league secretaries for all the leagues at Level 8 and below - the Dorset & Wilts Leagues – and recommend the structure and composition of those leagues.
We do the same for Colts with U17 and U18 Cups and administer the Merit Tables / Leagues, Boys Youth competitions Under 14 to Under 16 and the County Festivals for U12s & U13s.
The winners and runners of the three 1st XV competitions and semi finalists from the U17 Cup competition go forward into the 3 senior RFU knock outs and the four tiers of National U17 competitions.
The Committee organises the trophies for and stages 30 finals, play offs and festivals during each season. It is responsible for promulgating the rules and regulations under which those competitions are played.
The Committee provides the Competition Administrators or League / Table secretaries for 12 knock outs (plus 8 Bowl and Plate competitions that follow from them) and 15 Leagues / Tables
The principal aim of the league secretaries - and their deputies – in the D&W leagues is to assist the SW Divisional Organising Committee in managing the leagues but also to advise clubs on issues that arise, to assist communication and adjudicate.
The league secretary should be the first point of contact if there are any issues, especially over fielding a side/ honouring a fixture/ playing conditions etc.
Advice can be given as to the best way forward. This contact needs to be made BEFORE any game is cancelled or conceded so that the correct action follows. League secretaries also have to apply the RFU regulations. In D&W we have lightened the impact of these by way of De-Regulation to give clubs the best opportunity to play games and give all the playing members of a club the chance to play by lifting the limitations on numbers. The new rules on rolling substitutions and our de-regulation below Level 9 will assist this.
The full set of de-regulated rules can be found in the D&W Handbook and are on the SW Rugby website www.swrugby.co.uk , where other important information can also be found.
